Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a great day. In today’s blog post we will be assesing the ways we as students interact with learning material. My learning interactive design project is based on “best study habits and stategies for academic tests”. As college students I am sure you relate to the challenges of test taking and the anxiety that comes with it. In this blog I would like you to watch this video that I found on the 8 study tips and let me know you thoughts on how you would interact with this video. I have some thoughts and questions I answered below based on how I think students like you would interact with this! Let me know if you agree or disagree or just have some comments!
Prompt: Go to YouTube, Vimeo, Youku, Tencent Video or hosted video service provider of your choice, and type in your Interactive Learning Design subject area into the βsearchβ box. Choose a video from the list that comes up that you might use with your learners and write a post that addresses 4-5Β of the prompts below.
What kind of interaction would the video require from your students? Does it force them to respond in some way (inherent)?
The only interaction would be for the students to click on the video on watch it. This video is not much of an interaction video but more of a informative video. The video is designed but the best part about these type of videos is the response of what the students does with this information which is learner generated. The interaction part will be if the student feels motivated to use this study tips like create thier own planner, use the apps that were suggested or organize thier notes in a particular way the video talked about. I think in some way it forces the student to feel motivated and maybe reflect on thier study habits and thier way of learning. Everytime I watch a motivational video I get inspired and respond accordingly.
In what way are they likely to respond to the video on their own, e.g. make notes, do an activity, think about the topic (learner-generated)?
I think while and after watching this video they will most likely write some notes on the tips that were mentioned and maybe download the apps /organization apps that were mentioned in the video. They may even want to create thier own planner and flashcards as well to practice the methods that are suggested. Students will definetly take away something from this video whether they interact with it or not.
What activity could you suggest that they do, after they have watched the video (designed)? What type of knowledge or skill would that activity help develop? What medium or technology would students use to do the activity
An activity I came up with was get into a group of 5 or even a discussion forum (if online learning) and talk about your strength and weaknesses when it comes to studying for tests. Make some suggestion for you peers about you do to cope with certain challenges and vice versa. This activity will help develop the learner to learner interaction, provide feedback and create a space where the interaction is controlled by the student themselves. The technology student will use will be some online forum or even just meeting in person and interacting with each other face to face.
I was also thinking a twitter thread where some students who would want to talk about questions realted to study habits can get feedback realtime and actually have a conversation instead of a formal discussion forum where it is harder to have these real time interactions.
How would students get feedback on the activity that you set? What medium or technology would they and/or you use for getting and giving feedback on their activity?
The students will get feedback real time or on a discussion forum. The best case would be if students were actually responding to each other and offering insight/suggestions on thier study tips. Interaction is going to be key in this activity. I would as a instructor promote more interaction and feedback from peers in class. It is crucial to learning and will develop the students understadning further.
How could the video have been designed to generate more or better activity from viewers or students?
I think this video was well done but it is difficult to generate more activity from a video itself on youtube. I think the comment section is always informative on these types of videos as it gives positive feedback and suggestions. I think there are more tips of how to study better so maybe they can inncooperate a part 2 to this video. I think another thign they could have done to make it more inclusive was create a poll on thier page to ask the views/students about some questions relating to the video it vould have helped provide feedback and insight on this topic.
PS. to my blog viewers this is one way I like to study is putting on a study with me video on youtube. It is calming and puts me in a work enviroment headspace! I will link it below!
